George Hotz, Perhaps The Best iPhone Hacker Ever Joins Facebook

George Francis Hotz, best known for unlocking iPhones so that they could be used with other carriers has joined facebook. According to news reports, Hotz has been working in facebook for a while and has participated in the company’s latest hackathon project. Hotz has posted his hackthon experience on his facebook wall where he calls facebook the best place to work.

GeoHot, as he is often called, is a prolific hacker who has hacked playstation 3 and all the versions of iPhones. His hacking attempt on playstation 3 landed him in a legal fight with Sony. As part of the settlement, Hotz consented to a permanent injunction.

One can only make a wild guess as to what his role would be in facebook. Would it be to secure facebook? or would he work on iPad app for facebook? or perhaps something completely unheard of before. The fact that he completely understands how Apple’s devices work leads us to believe that it would be definitely be something to do with the iPad.

According to Joshua of Chronic-Dev Team, Hotz want to stay away from publicity that has inherently followed him after series of sucessful hacking attempts on iPhones.
